COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU women's soccer powered past crosstown foe Columbia College 3–0 Wednesday afternoon, scoring all three goals in the first half to claim their 12th win of the season.
The Rams wasted little time taking control, out shooting the Koalas 9–1 in the opening period and converting three times before the break. Zamaria Baugh opened the scoring in the 29th minute off an assist from Lohrane Boaventura. Just three minutes later, Boaventura added a goal of her own with help from Lily Jackson to double CIU's advantage. Defender Chloe Battaglia capped off the dominant first half with a strike in the 43rd minute, sealing what proved to be the final scoreline.
Goalkeepers Hailey Resetar and Taylor Bullock combined for a shared shutout, totaling four saves between them. CIU's back line held firm throughout, limiting Columbia College to just six total shots and four on goal.
With the win, CIU improves to 12-3-1 overall and 8-2-1 in conference play, while recording another statement victory over their nearby rival.
The Rams look to take on Tennessee Wesleyan University this Saturday, Oct. 18 at home.
