LEXINGTON, VA. - The CIU men's track and field teams continued their strong showing on day two of the VMI Invitational, hosted by Virginia Military Institute. Once again, the Rams faced a competitive field featuring athletes from all collegiate divisions.
In the distance events, Joey Canning clocked a time of 4:56.89 in the mile, while Gavin Barfield completed the 3000m in 10:42.64. In the 800m, Spencer Evans and Jacobo Garcia-Rivera crossed the finish line with times of 2:09.20 and 2:16.31, respectively.
The sprint events saw Denim Jones lead the team in the 400m with a time of 53.18, followed by Julian Carranza (54.63) and Kevin Cunningham (56.42). In the 200m, Qamari Goven posted a time of 24.06.
The men's 4x400m relay team, featuring Jones, Chance Guthrie, Carranza, and Hunter McCaskill, delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a time of 3:28.27.
In the field events, newcomer Nicolás Ortiz excelled in the pole vault with a mark of 3.76m for 5th place. In the shot put, Dante Shuler led the Rams with a throw of 11.16m, followed by Bryce Scarborough (10.69m) and Colton Buchanan (10.61m).
Up Next: The Rams head back to Virginia to compete in the Bast-Gregger Multi Invitational next weekend, Jan. 31st-Feb. 1st.
