COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer returned to their winning ways on their home field Saturday as they took down Bluefield University (Va.) 6-0 Saturday morning. The Rams are now 2-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play and 2-1 overall.
Match Summary: The Rams began taking shots less than five minutes into the game and kept the pressure on Bluefield for the remainder of the contest. Lily Jackson got the Rams on the board with a penalty kick in the 11th minute. Jackson added another goal before intermission for a 2-0 lead.
Jackson picked up a hat trick after scoring less than a minute into the second half. Callie Rowe was the next to find the back of the net, giving CIU a 4-0 lead (53'). Marisa Dill chipped in one of her own before Mercy Berkemeyer sealed the deal with ten seconds remaining to give the Rams the 6-0 victory.
Jackson recorded her first hat trick in a Rams jersey, while CIU recorded a season-high 40 shots. Rowe led the way with 10. Hailey Resitar and Brooke Monfils combined for a clean sheet.
What Coach Kara Lail is saying: "It was good to be back at home. Lily Jackson created well for us early on to help us find our rhythm again. It was a quick turnaround with a tough loss on Thursday, and I am proud of how the girls bounced back and played our game today."
