COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer took a short trip down the road to take on Columbia College (S.C.) on Wednesday evening to keep rolling through Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The Rams scored in each half to pick up a 2-1 win against the Koalas, improving to 3-0 in AAC action.
Match Summary: Both teams kept trading possession in the first half, and it appeared the Rams and Koalas would enter half-time without a goal on the board. However, Marisa Dill put one past the Columbia keeper (40') to give the Rams a 1-0 advantage after the first half.
Columbia tied the game six minutes into the half after a penalty kick goal. The tie remained until Lauren Jackson found the back of the net (66') to put the Rams back in front. The Koalas continued to pressure CIU's defense, but the backline kept them from adding another goal to give the Rams the victory.
What Coach Kara Lail is saying, "Playing at Columbia College is always very difficult. They closed space down quickly and caused a lot of havoc in the first half. I was proud of how the girls came out in the second half, composed and with grit. Marisa and Lauren both had beautiful goals tonight."
Up Next: CIU is on the road this weekend, heading to Milligan College, Tenn., to take on Milligan University on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. EST.
