Late goal from Buffalos results in Women's Soccer first conference loss

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TENN. - CIU women's soccer took the pitch in Tennessee to take on Milligan University on Saturday afternoon for Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play action. A late goal in the second half from the Buffalo's ended the Rams' conference win streak, pushing their overall record to 3-2.

Match Summary: Mercy Berkemeyer was quick to make the Buffalo's keeper work, taking a shot less than a minute into the contest. Sydney Thoman was close to putting the Rams on the board with a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar (7'). Callie Rowe took a corner kick in the 21st minute, but CIU could not capitalize on this scoring opportunity. The first half was evenly matched, as both teams only took five shots to enter halftime at 0-0.

The second half looked like the first, as both defenses prevented the teams from taking many shots. The Rams had two scoring opportunities with corner kicks in the 51st and 68th minute, but neither resulted in a goal. It seemed the contest would end in a draw, but Milligan scored with less than three minutes remaining to give the Rams their first conference loss.

Up Next: CIU is back home on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. EST to host Reinhardt University (Ga.).
