Second half goal hands CIU first loss of 2024

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - CIU women's soccer stepped out of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play to take on one of the newest members of the NAIA, Spartanburg Methodist College (S.C.) on Thursday. The Rams could not match the Pioneers' second-half goal to fall 1-0. CIU is now 1-1 on the season. 

Match Summary: Both teams traded shots, but neither found the back of the net to enter intermission at 0-0. Hailey Resetar picked up five saves to keep the Pioneers off the board, and Lohrane Boaventura led the squad with two shots. 

The Pioneers scored in the 51st minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Rams continued to take shots, but no one could sneak it past the keeper.

Boaventura led the Rams with seven shots, while Callie Rowe chipped in three. Resetar recorded her season-best of seven saves. 

Up Next: The Rams are back in action AAC action Saturday morning, hosting Bluefield University (Va.) at 10 a.m. EST.
