CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY.- CIU men's soccer stepped out of conference play to take on fellow NAIA opponent Campbellsville University (Ky.) on Monday. The Rams took an early lead, but a goal from the Tigers resulted in a 1-1 draw. CIU is now 2-2-1 on the season.
Match Summary: Chase Knizek picked up a save less than four minutes into the match, but it was the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Offensive Player of the Week, Rodrigo Cercal, who got the Rams on the board (17'). Less than ten minutes later, the Tigers evened the score. Neither team found the back of the net for the rest of the period to enter intermission at a draw.
Florian Baumgaertner and Paul Schütte took shots early into the second half but could not score. Both teams continued to pressure the keepers, but neither made it past to break the draw. Benedict Kartheuser took a corner kick with less than three minutes remaining, but the Rams could not capitalize on this opportunity to take the lead.
Cercal now leads the team with five goals. Marlon Williams chipped in an assist, and Knizek recorded two saves.
