COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer kicked off Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on their home field against Kentucky Christian University. The Rams have been undefeated against the Knights since 2015 and kept this streak alive with a 9-0 win on Tuesday evening. CIU starts the regular season and conference play with a 1-0 record.
Match Summary: Lohrane Boaventura put the Rams on the board off of a penalty kick less than ten minutes into the game. CIU took four more shots before Amber McKinley added another off an assist from Callie Rowe (26'). In the next ten minutes, Boaventura scored two more goals to pick up her first hat trick of the season and give CIU a 4-0 lead. Sydney Thoman scored her first goal of the game for the Rams to lead 5-0 before intermission.
Lauren Jackson scored the first goal of her career in the 54th minute of the contest to add to the Rams' lead. A few minutes later, Boaventura scored her fourth goal, which added to an already impressive showing. Lily Vengelis got in on the scoring action with her own goal to put CIU up 8-0. To put the nail in the coffin, Leah Williamson found the back of the net (80') to secure a 9-0 win.
Boaventura set a program record with four goals in a match, while Lauren Jackson led the team with two assists. The Rams allowed just two shots from the Knights.
