Volleyball bounces back from first loss of the season with sweep on day one of Onset Invite

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - CIU women's volleyball began their first day of play at the Onset Invitational on Friday hosted by Saint Francis (Ind.). The Rams would take on Spring Arbor (Mich.) in match one of the day and then battle Indiana University Northwest (IUN) to close out the evening. Despite entering the afternoon at 4-0 on the season, the Rams would drop their match (3-1) against Spring Arbor but bounced back with a sweep of IUN during their nightcap.

Match One: SAU 3 CIU 1 (25-22, 15-25, 25-20, 28-26): The Rams looked impressive in set two, but it would be the only set win of the match despite 18 kills from Hanah Weiss. Hadassah Davis (16 kills) and freshman Katie Camp (14 kills) combined for 30 kills to add to the Rams offensive firepower. Kamelia De Jesus recorded a season-high 52 assists while completing the double-double with 17 digs to complement two aces. Libero Kelcey Mangum led the Rams in digs with 24, while Lydia Gustafson and Gabriela Vega bolstered the Rams at the net with three blocks apiece.

Match Two: CIU 3 IUN 0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15): The Ram handled their business against IUN, winning by double-digit points in two out of three sets. CIU hit a .265 clip as a team, with Weiss and Camp being the only two players to tally double-digit kills, each notching ten. Davis was precise with her attack, posting a .450 attack percentage and nine kills. De Jesus chalked up her second double-double of the evening with 33 assists and 12 digs, while Mangum found herself with 14 digs and two aces.

Up Next: The Rams return to War Coliseum in Fort Wayne tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 23, to play Taylor (Ind.) at 9:00 a.m. EST and Xavier (La.) at 1:15 p.m. EST.
