COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU took the field for a midweek matchup against crosstown rival Columbia College (S.C.) in a crucial Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest. The Rams were within reach of a comeback in both games, but came up short to fall 0-2 in the series. Their overall record is now 11-21 and 2-14 in conference play.
Game One: CC 2 CIU 1: Carmella Korte led off the first inning with a single, but she was left stranded on second. The Koalas homered in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Rams threatened after Ally Clapp singled and stole second, but a ground out and pop-up kept them off the board. Columbia added another in the fifth with a two-out double to extend their lead to 2-0. Macey Drye and Megan Stolzenbach singled in the sixth and moved into scoring position, but a flyout ended the scoring threat, and they trailed 2-0 heading into the final frame. The Koalas added another in the seventh, and CIU quickly responded with a Stolzenbach triple, who scored on a throwing error (7-5).
