CLEVELAND, Ga. - CIU hit the road to step back into Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play after their spring break tournament in Melbourne, Fla. The Rams took on the No. 2 team in the AAC standings, Truett McConnell, and fell short in both games. Their record is now 10-15 and 2-8 in conference play.
Game One: TMU 8 CIU 0: Truett took an early lead after scoring four runs in the first frame. Sydnee Dial held them scoreless for the second and third innings, but they added four more in the fourth to put themselves in run-rule territory. Macey Drye and Megan Stolzenbach made their way on base in the top of the fifth, but neither would score to prevent the five-inning run-rule.
Box Score Highlights:
Game Two: TMU 7 CIU 2: The Bears picked up offensively where they left off from game one, scoring two runs in the first inning. CIU cut their lead in half after Amya Fowler scored on an error. However, Truett responded with four of their own to lead 6-1 after two. Fowler singled in the third to score Stolzenbach, but neither team would score again until the sixth inning. Truett scratched one more run to lead 7-2, and three consecutive flyouts from the Rams ended the game.
