Rams bow out of series with Bruins dropping two on Thursday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After splitting the first doubleheader on Wednesday, CIU baseball was back in action against Carolina University (N.C.) to complete the four-game series. CIU was unable to maintain their lead in either game to fall 1-3 in the series, bringing their season record to 9-22.

Game Three: CU 6 CIU 4: Both teams went scoreless through three, but the Bruins notched two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Jennings Greene tied up the game with a two-run homer in the fifth. An error on an Austin Paradise pushed two more across to give CIU a 4-2 lead. The lead was short-lived, however, as a few pitching miscues and hits allowed Carolina to tie it up at 4-4. The Bruins then scratched two more in the sixth, and CIU could not score despite getting two runners on in the top of the seventh.

Box Score Highlights:

  • Scott McDonough led the team with two hits.

  • Greene notched two RBIs and hit his first collegiate home run.

  • Darius Hatchette-Dunn closed out the game on the mound and struck out the side in his one inning of work.

Game Four: CU 2 CIU 1: The Rams struck first this game after an RBI double from Collin Greer scored Colton Lopez. Their lead was short-lived again as the Bruins hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame to lead 2-1. CIU got runners on in four of the remaining five innings but could not push across another run to drop game four of the series.

Box Score Highlights:

  • Greene was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk.

  • James Lovera, Lopez, Greer, and Paradise also recorded a hit.

  • JT Stanley threw the complete game, allowing only four hits and striking out three in 6.0 innings.

Up Next: The Rams are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 26, with a doubleheader against Morris College (S.C.) on the road.
