BLUEFIELD, Va. - CIU Rams took the field for a doubleheader midafternoon on Saturday and fell in both games against Bluefield University despite taking the first lead in both contests. After taking game one on Friday, CIU could not carry this momentum into Saturday to clinch their first series win.
Game Two: BU 12 CIU 5: Both teams were scoreless in the first three frames, but CIU got on the board in the top of the fourth with RBI from Collin Greer and James Lovera. Bluefield responded with three in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Scott McDonough tied the game with a solo shot in the top of the next inning. Bluefield quickly regained the lead after scoring four more runs in the fifth. CIU added two more in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5, but Bluefield combined for five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take game one of the doubleheader.

Game Three: BU 7 CIU 5: Once again, CIU took the first lead after a Jennings Greene single scored James Lovera in the first inning. However, this lead was shortlived as Bluefield added five runs in the first two innings to lead 5-1. CIU scratched another in the top of the third on a Shane Hammonds double, but Bluefield responded with a home run to bring the score to 6-2. A lead-off double from Brandon Arnold and three consecutive singles gave CIU two more runs in the fifth to trail by two; however, Bluefield tacked on another in the bottom of the sixth to lead 7-4 going into the final frame of the contest. Peeler pushed one run across on the top of the seventh, but a flyout ended the contest in favor of Bluefield.
