GREENVILLE, S.C. - Following tough losses in their conference opener against UPike, the Rams stepped out of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play to take on NCCAA opponent Bob Jones University. In a high-scoring affair, CIU collected their second victory with a 16-10 win over the Bruins. The Rams are now 2-11 on the season.
Game Summary
CIU 16 Bob Jones 10: The Rams took an early lead after scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and added another run in the second after a groundout from Emmanuel Maldonado pushed James Lovera across the plate. Bob Jones responded with three of their own in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 4-3. Both teams scored one in the third, but CIU added one in the fourth for a 6-4 lead. The Rams began to pull away in the fifth after scoring four runs, highlighted by a Graham Peeler double. The Bruins responded with two in the bottom of the sixth, but CIU answered with three in the top of the seventh after Tanner Martinez and Lovera picked up three RBI. Bob Jones tacked on another run in the eighth, but the Rams added three more runs to extend their lead to 16-7. Not going down without a fight, the Bruins scored three runs in the final inning, but a strikeout ended the comeback threat.
