ATHENS, TENN. - CIU men's soccer hit the road to take on Tennessee Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The Rams only had two wins over the Bulldogs since 2018, but three second-half goals led CIU to their third win in program history against TWU. CIU is now 7-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
Match Summary: CIU overpowered the Bulldogs' defense, taking shots quickly in the first half. The Bulldog's keeper recorded five blocks, and one save to keep the Rams off the board. CIU held Tennessee Wesleyan to three shots in the first, with Matias Breit picking up a save.
Rodrigo Cercal put the Rams on the board in the 51st minute off an assist from Victor Gonzalez. Cercal extended their lead to 2-0 (72'), this time on an assist from Paul Schütte. Less than two minutes later, Schütte found the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage for CIU.
This is the fourth contest this season in which Cercal has recorded a brace.
