Rams blank Lions in final regular season contest

DAYTON, TENN. - CIU women's soccer hit the road to take on Bryan College (Tenn.) in a Monday morning matchup. The contest was previously scheduled for September 28 but was postponed due to Hurricane Helene. The Rams overpowered the Lions' offense for a 2-0 win to close regular season play. CIU finished 8-7 overall and 7-6 in Appalacian Athletic Conference (AAC).

Match Summary: The Rams' offense started off hot, taking three shots in the first five minutes of the contest. The ball traded possessions a few times before Marisa Dill found the back of the net to put CIU on the board (29'). Lily Jackson and Mercy Berkemeyer made attempts before the intermission, but both sailed high.

Despite three Lions' corner kicks at the beginning of the second half, the Rams' backline kept Bryan off the board. Shortly after, Lily Vengelis scored her third goal of the season to extend CIU's lead to 2-0 (53'). The Rams continued to work the Lions' keeper with eight more shots, but she managed to haul them in to prevent another goal. Hailey Resetar recorded three saves in the second half to record the sixth clean sheet of the season.

What Coach Kara Lail has to say, "This season has all around been really tough on our program. We have had a lot of adversity, but the girls have battled every step of the way. Each day seemed like we had a new obstacle in front of us, but the girls have been faithful in chasing after Jesus and worshiping Him in how they play, encouraging one another, and battling through that change together. Today's win was another example of that. I could not be more proud of these ladies and their accomplishments today and this year. We are not done yet and look forward to another week of battle."

Up Next: Depending on the results of the Tennessee Wesleyan vs. Columbia College match, which starts at 1 p.m., the Rams will be either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the AAC Tournament.
