COLUMBIA - CIU volleyball recognized one of the most accomplished senior classes in program history on Saturday afternoon by sweeping Montreat College (N.C.) 25-20, 25-12, 25-18. The win was CIU's 25th of the season. They are now 25-2 overall and 15-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
The Rams made short work of the Cavaliers as Hanah Weiss' performance highlighted Senior Day as the Indiana native recorded 16 kills with a .519 attack percentage. Freshman Katie Camp shined for CIU with 11 kills while hitting at a .333 clip to go along with five block assists.
Setters Melissa Campos Soto and Kamelia De Jesus had 13 and 16 assists to support the Rams offensively. Campos Soto added six digs to her stat total, while Kelcey Mangum led CIU in digs with ten.
Lydia Gustafson kept up her strong play from the middle blocker position with four blocks assists.
Saturday marked the final originally scheduled regular season home match of 2024 season. The Rams will, however, play Reinhardt (Ga.) at home on Nov. 9 in a make-up match.
What Coach Katie Weiss is saying:"It was a special day honoring our wonderful senior class. They have made an impact on the court and in our hearts. They have done a tremendous job leading this team and all of them are leaving a lasting legacy. We are so proud of each of them and it will be hard to say goodbye when we play our last match this season."
