COLUMBIA, S.C. - For their final home Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest, CIU women's soccer hosted Johnson University (Tenn.) on Wednesday evening. An evenly-matched first half, a second-half goal from the Royals resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Rams. CIU is now 6-7 overall and 6-6 in AAC play, with one conference game remaining.
Match Summary: Lauren Jackson took a shot in the 5th minute of the contest that the Royals' backline blocked. Johnson was presented with their own scoring opportunity from a corner kick, but a defensive save from Olivia Young kept them off the board (16'). Marisa Dill made an attempt that was hauled in, and then Mazzie Leos recorded her own defensive save to prevent Johnson from scoring (42'). Amber McKinley took two shots before the horn, but they were slightly off target.
Johnson took a shot five minutes into the second half, but CIU responded with three of their own. The Rams took their first corner kick in the 57th minute, and the Royals responded to take a 1-0 lead. CIU came close to scoring off a shot from Dill, but a narrow save from the keeper kept them off the board. The final shot from the Rams sailed wide, resulting in a 1-0 loss.
