COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer welcomed the University of Pikeville (Ky.) to Sessions Field on Wednesday afternoon to start the second half of their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) schedule. Neither team made it past the keeper to get on the board in the first frame, but the Rams came alive in the second half and scored three to take down the Bears 3-0. CIU is now 6-3 overall and 6-2 in AAC play.
Match Summary: The first half was evenly matched, with the teams trading off shots. Neither team found the back of the net to enter intermission 0-0.
The game's first goal came in the 58th minute, on a Bear's own goal off a cross from Sydney Thoman. Three minutes later, Amber McKinley extended their lead to 2-0 after racing downfield against the Bears' defenders. McKinley added another goal off a corner kick from Callie Rowe to put the Rams ahead 3-0. CIU took five more shots before the final buzzer, but none connected with the net to give the Rams the win.
This is the fourth game this season that the Rams have had a player score more than one goal. McKinley led the team with six shots, while Rowe and Mercy Berkemeyer had two. Hailey Resetar recorded six saves and her fourth clean sheet of the season.
