BARBOURVILLE, KY. - CIU men's soccer hit the road to take on Union Commonwealth (Ky.) on Saturday as Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play dwindles down. Two goals in the second half from the Bulldogs resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Rams. CIU is now 7-5-2 overall and 6-3-1 in AAC play.
Match Summary: The first half was evenly matched as both teams took five shots. Victor Gonzales and Juan Jimenez led the Rams with two each in the first, but neither made it past the Bulldog keeper. Vasilios Diakomihalis recorded three saves to keep Union off the board as well.
Despite playing a man down after a first-half red card, Union scored in the 48th minute to lead 1-0. Fernando Ferro responded three minutes later with his own goal, assisted by Rodrigo Cercal, to even the score. The Bulldogs regained the lead 17 minutes later (2-1). Michael Abongo, Pablo Puerto, and Jimenez continued to take shots until the final buzzer, but none could force a draw.
Up Next: The Rams welcome Johnson University (Tenn.) on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. EST. Senior Day celebrations will occur before the game.
