GAINESVILLE, Ga. - CIU volleyball returned to business as usual on Tuesday evening, sweeping the Brenau (Ga.) Golden Tigers (25-18, 25-23, 25-21). The Rams (21-2, 11-1) have never lost to Brenau in volleyball, and the all-time series now sits at 14-0.
The Rams gave up a season-high 14 aces, but it wasn't enough to make a difference as CIU's attack overwhelmed the Golden Tigers. The Rams had an attack percentage of .407, while Hanah Weiss recorded 16 kills and hit a blistering .542. CIU only totaled ten attack errors on the evening compared to 43 kills. The defensive effort was solidified by Kelcey Mangum, who tallied 21 digs, and reigning NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week Lydia Gustafson, who posted four block assists. Setters Melissa Campos Soto and Kamelia De Jesus had 15 and 16 assists, respectively, as Campos Soto also recorded three service aces.
The Rams continue to battle for the top spot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) as they move into the final stretch of the conference schedule in the second half of October.
