CIU drops Johnson in three sets to cap weekend

COLUMBIA - CIU volleyball's first weekend at home ended in yet another win on Saturday as the Rams defeated Johnson (Tenn.) 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-21). The CIU is now 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The Rams have not lost a set in conference play thus far to start the season. CIU has never lost to Johnson and is now 4-0 all-time versus the Royals, dating back to their first match in 2021.

Saturday's afternoon's match once again featured sure hitting as CIU had three players in double-figure kills, Kira Rymer Attaway (12), Alana Sanjurjo (11), and freshman Gracen Norris (11). The Rams hit over .300 as a team for the eighth match this season, with a hitting percentage of .341.

Kamelia De Jesus led the Rams in assists with 27 while her counterpart Melissa Campos Soto picked up 21 assists of her own. De Jesus clocked in with a double-double as she added 14 digs to her stat line. Libero Kelcey Mangum evened up De Jesus on her dig total, recording 14 as well.

The Rams shared the wealth defensively as six different players recorded a block assist.

Carla Cauchi gave CIU a helping hand in serve/receive with two aces.
