CLINTON, S.C. - CIU women's soccer opened regular season play with a matchup against NCAA Division I Presbyterian College on Friday. The meeting was the first match-up between the Rams and the Blue Hose in program history. Against a formidable non-conference opponent, CIU could not hold off Presbyterian and fell 2-0.
Scoring Summary:
The Blue Hose were able to get off 13 shots in the first half, while the Rams' lone shot came from Marisa Dill. Presbyterian took the lead with less than eight minutes before the half.
Mercy Berkemeyer led CIU in the second half with two shots, while Mazzie Leos and Lily Vengelis collected one. However, Presbyterian out-shot the Rams 10-4 and extended their lead 2-0 in the second frame.
Keeper Hailey Resetar, a new face for the Rams, had an impressive game with eight saves.
What Coach Kara Lail is saying:
"We knew starting with Presbyterian would be a tough way to kick off the season, but we wanted to test ourselves early and see what we can do. We are very proud of the way we battled tonight. Our girls fought hard and worked together. Some of our returners stepped up and led well, and our newcomers quickly stepped into the speed of play. We are excited to see all we accomplish this year."
