CLEVELAND, Ga. - CIU women's soccer made history and took the pitch for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) semifinal contest in program history. The squad traveled to the No. 1 seed, Truett McConnell. The Rams fell 2-0 earlier in the year to the Bears, and tonight's matchup would have a similar ending. CIU took a 3-0 loss to close out their conference tournament run and move 11-6-1 overall.
Match Summary: Truett took an early lead from a penalty kick (4:45), and remained in control of the possession for most of the first half. Hailey Resetar picked up two saves before Callie Rowe took the Rams' first shot that the Bears' keeper was able to haul in.
The ball remained in CIU's defensive end for the remainder of the first half, and the Bears extended their lead to 2-0 off a deflection from Amber McKinley's defensive save (37:02).
The second frame played out similarly, as Truett quickly took two shots to start off the half. CIU was awarded a corner kick but could not take advantage of this scoring opportunity. Resetar hauled in four more shots to keep the score where it was.
Mazzie Leos made an attempt to cut their lead in half with a header that ricocheted off the crossbar. Shortly after, the Bears added another off of a corner kick to extend their lead 3-0 (77:45).
Thais Roberto took a shot in the waning minutes of the contest, but Truett's keeper handled it to keep them off the board and secure their 3-0 win.
Resetar had another career night in the net with 11 saves. The Rams' offense struggled to fire up, as they only took three shots on the night.
