Rams test Tennessee Wesleyan in 1-0 loss

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer hosted Tennessee Wesleyan (9-1-1, 8-1 AAC) for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are coming off four consecutive clean-sheet wins and 20 unanswered goals, but their offense was unable to keep this streak alive. CIU fell 1-0 to the Bulldogs, bringing their record to 7-4-1 (6-3-1 AAC).

Match Summary: Despite Tennessee Wesleyan taking the game's first shot, the first ten minutes of the game was a defensive battle. Callie Rowe attempted a cross but could not find a teammate to capitalize on her pass.

Lily Jackson took the first corner kick (16:54), but the Rams could not find the back of the net off the opportunity. CIU keeper Hailey Resitar picked up two back-to-back blocks to keep the Bulldogs off the board. Rowe took CIU's first shot, but it deflected off the post (26:24).

Amber McKinley was impressive on the backline as she picked up another defensive save. The Bulldogs found the back of the net five minutes before halftime to take a 1-0 lead.

Mercy Berkemeyer quickly took a shot in the second frame, but her header sailed wide. The Bulldogs stepped up their offensive game, firing off four shots in three minutes. Two went wide, but Resitar was able to save the others. Jackson took another corner kick (56:51) but could not find an open teammate to force a shot.

The Bulldogs took four more shots before the end of the frame, and they kept control of the ball for most of the second frame. CIU could not fire back and get on the board to even out the score, as they fell 1-0.
