CLEVELAND, GA. - CIU women's soccer headed to the Peach State on Saturday to take on No. 20 Truett McConnell University. The Bears currently sit in the No. 1 slot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings without recording a conference loss. They defended this spot after two first-half goals gave them the edge over the Rams. CIU is now 7-5-1 on the season and 6-4-1 in AAC play.
Match Summary: Truett controlled the ball for most of the first half and quickly took three shots in the first ten minutes. Avery Long took the lone shot for CIU in the first frame (12:31), but it sailed wide. The Bears continued to pressure Hailey Resitar in goal, but she kept them off the board until the 28:32 minute mark.
The Rams held Truett to just three more shots for the remainder of the period, one of which found the back of the net to give them a 2-0 lead going into the half.
Mazzie Leos quickly got herself into scoring position in the second frame, but her attempt went high over the crossbar. This was the last shot taken for CIU. The Bears continued to work offensively in an attempt to extend their lead. Resitar picked up five saves and one block in this period to keep the score at 2-0 for the reminder of the match.
