MONTREAT, N.C. - CIU volleyball wrapped up road play in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on Saturday with a gutsy sweep over Montreat (N.C.) 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 26-24). Two dominant sets primed the Rams for the win, but the Cavaliers did not back down in the third set. CIU (25-1, 16-1 AAC) held an 11-3 advantage in set three, but Montreat rallied all the way back to knot the match at 24-24. However, back-to-back kills from
Kira Rymer Attaway squashed the comeback attempt as the Rams swept Montreat.
Rymer Attaway had a notable performance, hitting .545 on the afternoon with 13 kills and two block assists.
Gracen Norris was solid for the Rams, with eight kills and four block assists.
Lydia Gustafson was once again a staple on the front line with five block assists. The Rams had 22 blocks, assists, and 12 total blocks as a team. Four different players recorded three or more total blocks for CIU.
Kamelia De Jesus picked up 20 assists and is now 72 away from her 4,000th career assist.
Melissa Campos Soto completed CIU's setter duo with 15 assists of her own.
Kelcey Mangum was the only Ram with double-figure digs, notching 19.
What Coach Katie Weiss is saying: "Credit to Montreat for testing us in the third set. I was pleased to see us hold them off down the stretch and get the sweep. We are looking forward to finishing out the regular season at home. It should be an enjoyable stretch of matches coming up."
