COLUMBIA - CIU volleyball bounced back from their weekend loss in dominant fashion Tuesday night as the Rams (24-1, 15-1 AAC) swept Columbia College (25-10, 25-9, 25-8). The win gives CIU an all-time record of 14-0 versus the Kolas (2-18, 0-16). Despite having dropped a match this season, the Rams still have several streaks going, including a 33-match regular-season home win streak that dates back to Nov. 14, 2020.
Tuesday's match saw the Koalas outmatched in all facets of the competition as the Rams held Columbia to a -.012 hitting percentage while collecting a .468 hitting percentage themselves.
Notably, Gracen Norris held a .800 hitting percentage entering the third set. While she was not quite able to finish off what would have been a historical performance, the freshman was still brilliant offensively, finishing with 13 kills, hitting .586 on the evening. Right-side hitter Kira Rymer Attaway tallied seven kills, while Hanah Weiss and Abbey Kleist accompanied her with five kills apiece.
Ingrid Ferrari was a bright spot for CIU as the Brazil native collected four kills and three solo blocks.
The Rams recorded ten service aces as a team, with Melissa Campos Soto and Emilia Niedzielska each serving up three. Campos Soto led the Rams in assists with 22.
Defensively, the Rams were again solidified by Kelcey Mangum as the libero hauled in 12 digs. Lydia Gustafson aided the defensive effort with three solo blocks.
What Coach Katie Weiss is saying: "I thought our energy was in a good place, which was encouraging to see. We had a bunch of girls contribute to the win this evening, demonstrating how deep this team is, and it was great getting back in the win column in front of the home crowd."
Up Next: CIU will make the trek across state lines to take on Montreat on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. EST in North Carolina.
