COLUMBIA, S.C. - In a Saturday afternoon contest, CIU women's soccer took the pitch for a battle with No. 20 Truett McConnell (5-2-1, 4-0 AAC). The Rams entered the contest unbeaten in conference play but faced their first true test of the season with the Bears, who sit atop the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Ultimately, the Bears proved too much for CIU as they claimed a 3-0 victory over the Rams.
Scoring Summary:
The Bears got things going at around the 5th minute of the first half on a well-struck ball from Sydney League, which was assisted by Kristin Beasley. The Bears managed to control time of possession, spending most of the half on the attack. Later, in the period, TMU's Moriah Logue increased her team's lead with a goal on an assist by Eliska Dvorakova. The Bears struck again before the half, this time from Lindsey Fowler, to build the Bear's advantage to three goals. The match moved to halftime with a three-goal advantage by the Bears, who also held a 10-1 shot advantage.
It was more of the same result in the second period as TMU outshot the Rams 6-1. The Bears did a solid job of not letting CIU have any quality chances offensively. Neither team would add a goal in the second period giving TMU a 3-0 win.
Arianna Elliott led the Rams with two shots while
Jessica North recorded three saves. CIU moves to 4-1-1 on the season and 2-1 in the AAC.
