Men's Soccer climbs AAC standings with 4-1 over Bears

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer returned to Sessions Field to host Truett McConnell (Ga.) in another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest. Last year, the Rams went into double overtime against the Bears before winning 2-1. Today, however, would be a different story as they won 4-1, thanks to an exciting first half and 21 total shots as a team.

Scoring Summary: Fabio Bender quickly put the Rams on the board, scoring in the game's first minute on an assist from Marlon Williams. The Rams scored again at the 24-minute mark with a header from Gabriel Rokov, assisted by Sohya Yamamoto. Praise Kabwe extended the lead to 3-0 after scoring off of a penalty kick. At the 47:26 minute mark, Daniel Ospina scored his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Bryan Molina. The Rams went into the second half up 4-0, but would not find the net in the match's final 45 minutes. Truett McConnell did not find the board until the 84:40 minute mark when a goal was added by Oscar Brennan. CIU is now 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in AAC play.

What Coach Bill Brindley is saying:
"I thought we played a complete first half which was encouraging. It is always a plus when you start well, and thankfully, today, we were able to finish strong and get the win.

Up Next:
CIU will travel to Montreat, N.C. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to face off against Montreat College in another AAC match.
