Dates set for annual Hoop for Hope basketball camp

June 03, 2022

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU basketball's annual Hoop for Hope basketball camp is set to take place on Tuesday, Jul. 12, through Friday, Jul. 15. This is the third year of the unique basketball outreach camp which has become one of the primary ministry opportunities offered by CIU athletics. The camp last put on in July of 2021 attracted nearly 200 campers from local communities near CIU. Hoop for Hope is a ministry hosted by CIU basketball that focuses on drawing in boys and girls ages 10-14 from the Eau Claire and North Main neighborhoods. Campers have the opportunity not only to hone their basketball skills but learn more about Jesus through daily devotions and bible teaching.

Former Clemson and Ohio State guard Tony Stockman is the camp's director. Stockman is currently the head men's basketball coach at CIU and is the winningest coach in CIU history.

Stockman spoke on the camp, saying, "It is one of the highlights of the year to be able to put on the Hoop for Hope basketball camp. Sports are an incredible tool for sharing the gospel, and this camp is a great example of that. Getting better at our sport is important to our basketball program at CIU but making a kingdom impact is of much greater significance."

Hoop for Hope is free of charge for campers, but any donation towards the camp is appreciated. Donations can be made at www.ciurams.com/hoop4hope.

Community members can register their camper here.
