COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU men's basketball standout Johnny Whysong has been named an NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball Second-Team All-American, recognizing a standout season in which he helped lead the Rams to another national championship appearance.
Whysong averaged 11.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, showcasing his all-around impact on both ends of the floor. The forward led CIU in minutes played at 31.9 per game.
Whysong etched his name in the program record book by setting the single-season assists record. He also became just the second player in program history to record a triple-double and the first to achieve multiple triple-doubles in a single season.
Whysong played a key role in guiding the Rams to a runner-up finish in the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season standings. CIU carried that momentum into postseason play, advancing to the NCCAA Division I National Championship game for the second consecutive year and finishing as national runner-up once again.
The Rams concluded the season with a 22-11 overall record.
