Baseball yields to No. 11 Georgia Gwinnett in doubleheader

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - CIU baseball concluded their series with No. 11 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday as they dropped both games of the series ending doubleheader. The Grizzlies (34-12) ran away with game one 13-3, but it was a hard-fought game two as CIU (19-30) narrowly lost 5-3. 

GAME ONE: GGC 13 CIU 3: CIU fell behind 8-0 until the sixth inning when the Rams' offensive picked up. Britton Morris picked up an RBI single to put CIU on board, and then the Rams added another as Carter Willis scored on a fielder's choice. CIU tacked on one more run in the seventh, but it would be their last score of the game as the Rams succumbed 13-3.

BOX SCORE NOTES:

GAME ONE: GGC 5 CIU 3: CIU took an early 2-1 advantage through the first four innings after the Rams scored two runs on errors. Buddy Bleasdale stretched the advantage to 3-1 on an RBI double in the top of the fifth, but the Grizzlies evened the score at the bottom of the inning at 3-3. After a scoreless top of the seventh inning, a two-run walk-off home run by the Grizzlies in the bottom of the seventh inning ended the game. 

BOX SCORE NOTES: 

  • Buddy Bleasdale had two hits in three at-bats with an RBI double.
  • Christian Orr got the start on the mound going six innings yielding three earned runs.

Up Next: CIU will have a chance to clinch a spot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament as they play their final regular-season series of 2022 versus Point (Ga.) beginning Thursday, April 28. at 6 p.m. at Miller Field.
