COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU softball returned to their home field for a single game against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent and cross-town rival Columbia College (S.C.). Unfortunately, after tying the game to send it to extra innings, the Rams could not get the runs they needed to win, falling 5-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED: CIU 4 CC 5: CIU opened the game up with a triple from
Shannon Patton to score the game's first run. Columbia College would answer with three runs in the next two innings. The Koalas would then score another run in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Rams found themselves in need of instant offense and would get just that from
Haylee Wilkerson in the sixth inning. With two runners on base, Wilkerson connected on a three-run homer to tie the game at 4-4. The contest went into extra innings where Columbia College took a one-run lead in the top of the eighth inning. In the Ram's final at-bat, CIU would load the bases, but couldn't bring in a run to tie or win the game.
