12 hits in game two helps Rams split series with KCU

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU Softball continued Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play with another weekend series, this time versus Kentucky Christian University. Both squads are currently trying to climb in the AAC standings and looked to make up ground with a series win in the capital city of Columbia. Each game was tightly contested and as a result, each team took one game, with the Knights taking game one 3-2, and the Rams prevailing in game two 8-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE: CIU 2 KCU 3: After a scoreless first inning, KCU would bring in the game's first run in the second inning. CIU would answer to tie it up in the third inning on an RBI single from Kaitlynn Creel. KCU would regain the lead with a two-run homer in the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage. In their next time at the plate, CIU managed to add one run on a triple from Megan Stolzenbach to bring in Josie Self, cutting their deficit to one. The Rams defense allowed no runs, but its offense could not string together any more scores, falling 3-2.

BOX SCORE NOTES:

  • Catie McGovern got the start and pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts.
  • Cissy Doolittle saw time in the circle, going for two innings and allowing only three hits.
