COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer played the second of three straight roads Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contests with a crosstown matchup at Columbia College (S.C.). The Rams tallied their second-highest goal total this season, posting eight against the Koalas resulting in the Ram's fifth conference win of the season. The win also puts CIU firmly atop the AAC standings, with seven contests left to play.
Scoring Summary:
Fabio Bender scored the first goal of the Rams eight in the ninth minute on an assist from
Gabriel Rokov.
Praise Kabwe then found the back of the net with an assist from Bender roughly two minutes later. The Rams took a two-score lead into the break, outing shooting the Koalas 20-2.
CIU produced several offensive chances in the first half but only managed to put together two. However, the Rams were more efficient in the second, as they put in six goals in the final 45 minutes.
Sonny Quintanilla scored his first goal of the night on an assist from Bender, followed by another goal from
Praise Kabwe assist by
Sohya Yamamoto in the following minute. Later in the period, Yamamoto,
Mariano Calderon, and
Bryan Molina would all strike for the Rams in the second period.
CIU ended the contest with 35 shots, 20 of which were on goal, marking the most so far this season. With two goals tonight,
Praise Kabwe sits tied for first in the conference in goals scored and first in points.
