Wins continue to pile up for CIU Volleyball as Rams sweep Koalas

COLUMBIA, S.C - After dispatching Columbia College (S.C) just three days ago, CIU volleyball would again roll over the Koalas, sweeping their cross-town rivals 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-15). The win moves the Rams to 25-7 overall and 15-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The victory keeps CIU sitting securely in first place in the AAC.

The Rams never trailed in the match until the Koalas took a 1-0 lead in the third set. However, even with the shortlived advantage, CIU still took the third and final set by double-digits. The Rams controlled the contest both serving and in serve receive with ten aces on the evening compared to just one from Columbia. Four of the service aces from the home team were contributions from Alana Sanjurjo, who was also second on the team in digs with eight. Abbey Kleist had a notable performance offensively with 12 kills and a .522 hitting percentage. Kira Rymer was the other Ram player in double-digit kills with ten. Thirty of CIU's assists came by way of Kamelia De Jesus, and ten came from Melissa Campos Soto. Arguably the best defensive team in the AAC, CIU held the Koalas to a .053 hitting percentage while picking six block assists and a solo block. Kelcey Mangum was the only Ram with double-digit digs notching 14.
