COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer took the field on Wednesday evening at Session's Field to face off against Point University (4-9-2, 4-5-2). It was a quiet first half for both teams, but the Rams came alive in the second to secure a 2-0 win over the Skyhawks. The win is crucial to potential Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) postseason seedings as both the Rams and Skyhawks were jockeying for position in the middle of the conference standings.
Scoring Summary:
Neither team was able to find the net in the first half of the contest, despite several opportunities from both Point and CIU. The lack of offense continued for the Skyhawks in the second half, only putting up one shot on goal. CIU went up 1-0 at the 60:47 minute mark on a goal from
Amber McKinley on an assist by
Avery Long and
Marisa Dill. The Rams extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from
Haley Hernandez assisted by
Tara Collins. The scores were McKinley's second goal of the season and Hernandez's fourth. CIU is now 6-4-3 on the season and 4-4-2 in conference play.
