Rams continue to roll with win over Truett McConnell

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The CIU women's volleyball team continued their dominant start to Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Tuesday. CIU defeated Truett McConnell (Ga.) 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) to move to 5-0 in the conference. With the win CIU is now 13-5 overall and if they continue their winning ways have a chance to receive votes in or crack the next NAIA Coach's Top 25 poll. Looking back to when the Ram's first started volleyball in 2018, CIU only won five conference matches in that inaugural season, making the Ram's 5-0 conference start in 2021 even more impressive.

Truett McConnell would hang around in all three sets, but the Rams held complete control throughout the match. The Rams were deadly serving the ball as they recorded ten aces as a team compared to 0 for the Bears. Cintia Lorena and Kira Rymer each tallied 13 kills as Rymer hit .440 and Lorena hit .400. Kamelia De Jesus added to her growing assist total picking up 38 assists to go along with eight digs. Alana Sanjurjo stuffed the stat sheet with six kills, three aces, and 12 digs. Fabianne Besosa came off the bench to jumpstart the Rams on several occasions as she recorded three aces of her own. Ingrid Ferrari continues to present a challenge for opposing attacks as she notched three solo blocks and a block assist.

What Coach Amber Haver is saying: "Enjoyed being on our home court the last few games after several weeks on the road. Our fans were great tonight. Huge thanks to everyone that came out to show support."

Up Next: CIU will travel to Georgia for a weekend road trip as they take on Point (Ga.) at 6: 30 PM on Friday and Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday at 1 PM.
