Rams stay hot, dismantle Point in three sets

WEST POINT, Ga. - CIU volleyball continued its best start to a season as they won yet another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match on Friday. The Rams rattled off their seventh straight victory, quickly dismantling Point (Ga.) in three sets (25-20, 26-24, 25-18). CIU moves to 14-5 overall with the win and stays tied for first place in the conference sitting at 6-0 in the AAC.

The win is the Ram's fourth conference sweep of the season, with only two teams managing to win a set versus CIU through six matches. Kamelia De Jesus was the catalyst to the Rams victory with 30 assists, ten digs, while the 5'3 setter also picked up four blocks. Ingrid Ferrari aided the Ram's defensive effort with four blocks of her own. Kira Rymer tallied seven kills over the course of the match, while Cintia Lorena led CIU with nine kills. Libero Karla Rodriguez had three aces for the Rams while Mardi Scutchings was the third Ram with four blocks picking up a solo block and a block assist.

What Coach Amber Haver is saying: "Sweeping on the road is always nice.  We had to work hard against a seasoned team, loaded with seniors that have been playing together for several years. They are a team that hustles, so there were many long rallies. They challenged us in each set. Overall, I'm pleased with our effort tonight."

Up Next: The Rams take on perennial AAC volleyball power Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday at 1 PM in Waleska.
