Women's Soccer cruises past Carolina in 5-0 shutout

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer has started the season with a bang and after their game on Monday evening, have scored ten goals in just their first two competitions. The Rams downed fellow NCCAA South Region team Carolina University 5-0 to give CIU their second win of the year.

The Rams were led by junior transfer Mercy Berkemeyer who scored her first two goals in a CIU uniform. Berkemeyer scored her first goal at the 14:03 mark and then would score again just two minutes later. Before Berkemeyer got going, Kaylyn Hernandez opened things up for the Rams as the veteran put one on the back of the net just ten minutes into the contest. Midway through the first half Madisyn Dupree had the goal of the evening as she scored on a deep strike from close to 30 yards out from the right side of the field. Taylor Kyle had the game's final score at the 25:01 mark as the Rams went up 5-0 before halftime.

Goalie Kayla Lusk picked up her first shutout of the year as the Ram's defense only allowed four shots in the game, all of which came in the second half of the contest. As a team, CIU was prolific offensively, recording 21 total shots.
