WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - CIU men's soccer got their first road win of the season in dominant fashion, defeating Carolina University (N.C.) 6 to 0 Saturday night. Yet another impressive performance by Coach Bill Brindley's squad to start the 2021 season.
Scoring Summary:
Scoring came from several places tonight for the Rams as they scored three goals in the first and three goals in the second half. The first goal came at the 4:49 mark as senior midfielder Romulo Barreto put one in the back of the net off a penalty shot. Freshman midfielder, Jan Vozab, would then score the first goal of his young career at CIU during the 31st minute with Danny Ospina assisting. The final goal of the half would come by sophomore defender Lucas Galdino at the 35:22 mark on an assist from Praise Kabwe. The Rams led 3 to 0 at the half.
The Rams would pick up right where they left off in the second half as junior midfielder Daniel Ospina would score on an assist from Bryan Molina at around the 56:00 minute. Then, after assisting on an earlier goal, Rafael Carneiro would score one of his own at the 75:42 mark, coming off a corner kick played in by defender Lucas Galdino. Finally, Juan Ospina would tack on the game's final score by a penalty kick a little past the 88:00 minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Hazel Ley continues to play well for the Rams with two shutouts to start the season. An excellent sign for the Rams squad this season.

The Rams look to continue their winning ways as they hit the road again for a match-up in Mount Vernon, Georgia, as they take on Brewton-Parker College, Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 pm.
