COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer took care of business Tuesday night at Sessions Field, defeating Johnson & Wales (N.C.) 3 to 0 in their home opener. Tonight's match was the first live game for Coach Bill Brindley's squad because last week's scrimmage was canceled due to weather. However, several newcomers saw a lot of action and provided some encouraging play helping the Rams dominate the match.
Scoring Summary:
For most of the game, the Rams were on the attack, having attempted nine shots, four of which were on goal. In contrast the Wildcats only totaled three shots with one shot on goal. The first goal of the season was scored at the 2:34 mark of the match by Sonny Quintinilla (D) with an assist from Bryan Molina (F) and Juliano Magilo (D). In the 33rd minute of the first half Rafael Carneiro would score with Lucas Galdino assisting (D). Praise Kabwe would score the final goal of the half and ultimately the game at the 39:12 mark to put the Rams up 3 to 0. Those would be the game's only goals as both teams posted a shut-out in the second period.
