KINGSPORT, Tenn. - After making it to day three of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament, CIU baseball faced Truett McConnell (TMU) in an elimination game on Friday afternoon. The Rams convincingly defeated the Bears in a series during the month of April, but Friday yielded a different result. CIU (29-26) would lose a heartbreaker 11-10 to TMU (29-22) as they were eliminated from the AAC postseason.
How It Happened: The Rams took an early 1-0 lead over the Bears on a Gabe Austin RBI-single in the first inning. However, fundamental baseball from TMU put the Bears up 6-1 after five innings. CIU would add two runs but still trailed 8-3 heading into the bottom of the 8th. From there, the Rams exploded for six runs in the inning as Gabe Austin got the scoring going on another RBI single. Alex Miller followed Austin with a single of his own to score Robert Bell . Carter Willis one-upped Miller as he recorded a two-RBI double. Grant Bodison then gave the Rams the lead 9-8 as he would single to left field, bringing in Buddy Bleasdale and Willis. The Bears responded in the top of the 9th with two runs, but Kody Trujillo answered in the bottom of the inning to keep CIU alive on a ground ball single that scored Bell. TMU added a run in the top of the 10th, and this time CIU could not come back as the Rams went scoreless in the 10th, bowing out 11-10.
Trent Polly pitched 3.1 innings in the loss to the Bears
