Rams have big 6th and 7th innings to overpower Bears

CLEVELAND, Ga. - The Rams baseball team, traveled westward on Thursday, to battle the Bears of Truett McConnell. CIU looked to continue its winning ways in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, after defeating nationally ranked Bryan College last weekend two games to one, After only seven innings, Coach Johnson's squad would run-rule the Bears 14-2 winning in convincing fashion.

Key Plays:

  • CIU got to work early in the 1st inning, as Grant Bodison singled to shallow left field getting on base. In the next at-bat, Joshua Hernandez hit the Rams first homer of the day on a 2-2 count, going up 2-0 on TMU.
  • The Rams bats went cold until the 6th inning. Robert Bell then hit a three-run homer over the right-field fence, scoring Rafeal Gonzales and Grant Bodison. Later in the side, Buddy Bleasdale blasted a three-run homer over the left-field fence, giving the Rams an 8-2 lead.
  • CIU got right back to work in the 7th inning, scoring another six runs. Bodison opened the inning with a home run and then Gabe Austin reached on an error, allowing Josh Hernandez to score from third. Later in the at-bat, Kody Trujilo hit a two-run RBI single, scoring Robert Bell and Gabe Austin. Rafeal Gonzales would hit another two-run RBI single to center field, sending Alex Miller and Carter Willis home. CIU's explosion of offense was enough to win the game on the 7 inning run-rule.
