COLUMBIA, S.C - The Rams softball team stayed home this weekend to host the Eagles of Trinity Baptist College. CIU and the Eagles meet for the second time this season, as the Rams downed TBC earlier in the year in a two-game series. Today would be a different story, however, as the Eagles mustered enough good play to split the series with CIU.
Game One: CIU 4 TBC 2
- CIU started off hot, scoring a run in the first inning from a Robyn Andrews sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Tanaya Ellis.
- CIU continued solid batting in the 3rd inning as multiple Rams got involved in the scoring. Tanaya Ellis would again score off of a sacrifice fly from Haylee Wilkerson. In the next bat, Kaitlynn Creel sent a ball to the moon, scoring a one-run homer giving CIU a 3-0 lead.
- TBC climbed back in the 5th, scoring a run off of RBI single to shallow right-center field. Later in the at-bat, the Eagles would score on an error closing the lead to just one run.
- Despite a late rally from the Eagles, the Rams put the game away in the bottom of the 5th as Kaitlynn Creel hit an RBI double sending Haylee Wilkerson home to give CIU a 4-2 win.
Game Two: CIU 4 TBC 6
- The Rams got to work right away in the 1st inning. Shannon Patton began the scoring with a two-run RBI single to shallow center, scoring Robyn Andrews and Haylee Wilkerson. Taylor Allen got involved hitting an RBI single to shallow center field, sending Kaitlynn Creel home, giving CIU a 3-0 lead.
- The Eagles bats exploded in the second inning, taking the first lead of the day over CIU. Haynes would hit a three-run RBI double to tie the game with the Rams. Later in the at-bat, Goodin hit an RBI double to shallow left field, taking a one-run lead over CIU.
- TBC extended their lead in the 4th inning, as Brittany Frye hit a two-run RBI double to go up 6-4 over the Rams.
- CIU attempted to rally in the bottom of the 7th, scoring a run as Robyn Andrews hit an RBI single to shallow left-center. However, this late push wouldn't be enough, as the Rams would drop game two to the Eagles.
