BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The CIU Rams softball team traveled to Brunswick, Georgia, on Thursday to face the College of Coastal Georgia. This was a rescheduled match from earlier this year. Despite a close first game, the Rams would ultimately fall in both games to the Mariners.
Game One: CIU 2 CCG 3
- Game one was a tight defensive battle through the first three innings. The Mariners would break the stalemate with a run-off double to right-center field, going up 1-0 on the Rams.
- The Mariners would strike again in the 4th, as CCG scored on a walk.
- The Rams clawed back into the game in the top of the 6th; however, as Shannon Patton blasted an RBI double, scoring Tanaya Ellis and Robyn Andrews to tie the game at two-all.
- The Mariners struck again, however, as in the bottom of the 6th, with a one-run home run from Bryce Peacock to give CCG the winning run.
Game Two: CCG 7 CIU 0
- Unlike the first game, the second contest in the series was all CCG as they got things rolling in the second inning. The Mariners would score five runs in the bottom of the second after five hits and one error.
- The Mariners would score two more runs in the 3rd, off of two hits, making it 7-0 CCG.
Notable Players:
- Shannon Patton had CIU's only RBI of the day, blasting a double in the first game of the series.
Up Next: The Rams take a break this weekend but head into conference play against Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday, March 12th.
