Columbia, SC - The CIU softball team stayed home this weekend to do battle with the Knights of St. Andrews University on what was a chilly spring afternoon. The Rams are hot off of a series sweep of Columbia College on Wednesday, out-scoring the Koalas 24-3 through both games. CIU kept up their winning ways on Friday, downing St. Andrews in both games of the series.
Game One:
- The Knights struck early, scoring their only run of the game off of a stolen base.
- CIU tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning after Robyn Andrews reached on an error from a wild throw by pitcher Kyleigh Collins. Tanaya Ellis advanced on the error, drawing even with SAU.
- The Rams gained their first lead of the day in the 5th inning, as Kendall Parker hit an RBI single to left-center field, sending Haylee Wilkerson home.
- CIU put the Knights away in the 6th, scoring two runs to seal the victory. Tanaya Ellis blasted a triple to deep right field, allowing Hannah Brooke to score. Later in the at-bat, Robyn Andrews singled, sending Tanaya Ellis home yet again securing a 4-1 Ram win.
Game Two
- St. Andrews gained the advantage in the first inning, scoring one run off of a triple down the right-field line.
- The Rams easily found an answer in the bottom of the 1st, as Haylee Wilkerson batted in Robyn Andrews off of shallow left field double.
- The Rams found the firepower in the 2nd inning. Heaven Zamora advanced home off of a St. Andrews error to give CIU its first lead of the game. Tanaya Ellis got involved, hitting an RBI single up the middle, giving Madison Medlin the ability to go home for a score. Tanaya Ellis earned CIUs 4th and final run of the inning off of a wild throw by the St. Andrews catcher. CIU commanded a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd.
- Coach Allen's squad saw its first homer of the day as Shannon Patton hit a one-run homer over the left-field fence, giving CIU a 5-1 lead.
- Tanaya Ellis again made her mark in the 4th inning, with a one-run home run over the right-field fence, giving the Rams a 6-1 lead.
- The Knights battled back, however, with a score in the 6th inning off of an RBI single to shallow right, drawing within three of CIU.
- The Rams jumped out in the 6th, as Hannah Brooke hit an RBI single, sending Taylor Allen home. Later in the at-bat, Haylee Wilkerson hit an RBI single toward short, scoring Hannah Brooke in the process. The Rams would route St. Andrews in the second contest, with a final score of 8-2.

- Tanaya Ellis registered four hits, four runs, three RBIs, and one homer on the series.
- Haylee Wilkerson had two RBIs, four hits, and one run on the series.
- Catie McGovern had a solid performance pitching, with six strikeouts in the first game and giving up one run.
