COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer took on Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Milligan University (Tenn.) at 5 PM on Saturday. The Rams hoped to get back to winning ways after falling in their last match to Columbia College (S.C.) 2-0. Unfortunately, the Rams were unable to hold off Milligan falling to the Buffaloes 3-2. As a result, the Rams move to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the AAC.
Scoring Summary:
The first 20 minutes of the game was tightly contested, with neither team having a true advantage. However, the momentum would swing Milligan's direction as Ellie Cachiaras would find the back of the net for the Buffaloes at the 22:16 minutes mark. The Buffaloes would score again at the 38:35 minute mark, as Ashlen Burch would strike to give Milligan a two-goal advantage. The Rams struggled to get anything going offensively in the first half, trailing at the half 2-0.
In the second half, the Rams would start to find a rhythm offensively, with their first goal of the game coming off of a penalty kick because of a handball in the box by a Milligan player.
Makenzy Dupree would take the kick and score for the Rams, cutting their deficit to one. However, the Buffaloes would answer with a goal four minutes later by Ellie Cachiaras, her second goal of the game, on an assist by Alex Thomas. The Rams would make things interesting late with a goal by
Haley Hernandez off of a corner kick with a little under four minutes remaining in the contest. The Rams would battle until the final whistle but could not score one more goal to force overtime.

The Rams look to get back into the win column in their next matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 13, against Reinhardt University (GA.).
