Hernandez's late goal, not enough to defeat Buffaloes

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer took on Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Milligan University (Tenn.) at 5 PM on Saturday. The Rams hoped to get back to winning ways after falling in their last match to Columbia College (S.C.) 2-0. Unfortunately, the Rams were unable to hold off Milligan falling to the Buffaloes 3-2. As a result, the Rams move to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the AAC.

Scoring Summary:
The first 20 minutes of the game was tightly contested, with neither team having a true advantage. However, the momentum would swing Milligan's direction as Ellie Cachiaras would find the back of the net for the Buffaloes at the 22:16 minutes mark. The Buffaloes would score again at the 38:35 minute mark, as Ashlen Burch would strike to give Milligan a two-goal advantage. The Rams struggled to get anything going offensively in the first half, trailing at the half 2-0.

In the second half, the Rams would start to find a rhythm offensively, with their first goal of the game coming off of a penalty kick because of a handball in the box by a Milligan player. Makenzy Dupree would take the kick and score for the Rams, cutting their deficit to one. However, the Buffaloes would answer with a goal four minutes later by Ellie Cachiaras, her second goal of the game, on an assist by Alex Thomas. The Rams would make things interesting late with a goal by Haley Hernandez off of a corner kick with a little under four minutes remaining in the contest. The Rams would battle until the final whistle but could not score one more goal to force overtime.

What's Next:
The Rams look to get back into the win column in their next matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 13, against Reinhardt University (GA.).
