Women's Soccer tested in match with Eagles

WALESKA, GA: The CIU women's soccer team hit the road Wednesday afternoon to take on Reinhardt University (9-2, 9-0 AAC). The Eagles defeated Rams 5-0, moving CIU to a 7-6 record overall and 4-5 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

The Rams looked to get back in the win column following a loss at home to Milligan (Tenn.) in their last outing. Reinhardt (Ga.) came into the match atop the conference heading into the season's home stretch. The Eagles certainly proved worthy of their standing as they tallied five goals against the Rams for their 10th conference win.

Scoring Summary:

The Eagles would score four goals in the first off of 10 shots. The Rams would have three scoring opportunities to cut into the Eagles lead. The first came at the 16:06 mark by Mazzie Leos, however, the Rams were unable to find the net. Another opportunity would arise four minutes later, this time with Amber McKinley on the attack, but the Eagles goalkeeper would come out with the save to keep the Rams scoreless. Their final opportunity would not occur until early in the second half, as Haley Hernandez would attempt to score, but the Eagles goalkeeper would step in the way of that shot. Reinhardt would add on one more goal in the second half making the final score 5-0.

Two goalkeepers would see action in this game. Elaine Smith would record three saves in her time on the field. Kayla Lusk would also see the field adding four saves of her own.

What's Next:

The Rams hope to get back on track in their next game at home against Brenau University (Ga.) this coming Saturday, Oct. 16 on Sessions Field.
